Sourcing Raw Materials
Where possible our raw materials are sourced within the UK. We throw with three clay bodies; two are from Derbyshire (with added ball clay from elsewhere) and one is from Cornwall. We apply the same sourcing criteria to our glaze raw materials but there are some materials, especially oxides, that are imported from outside the U.K.

Firing
Packing our kilns efficiently and firing only when needed is how we work. Our kilns are powered from electricity generated from Sheffield’s Energy Recovery Facility. Occasionally we fire with gas, in which case all attention is on efficiency.

Packaging`
There is an art of packaging ceramics and we do have to pay close attention to the way we pack and amount of material we use in order to prevent breakages. We use ‘hive wrap’ instead of bubble wrap which is 100% biodegradable and recyclable and recyclable paper void filler. We also use ‘eco-flo’ which is made from non-GM starch and these are 100% biodegradable and compostable, you can either re-use or compost or add to your green bin.

Reducing and re-using waste`
We only ever fire pieces that we consider perfect, anything less is recycled back into clay to throw with at greenware stage. Trimmings, clay from sludge and the clay trap are all reclaimed back into workable clay - nothing is wasted. Excess glaze from tests and samples are used where possible, donated to other potters or incorporated into experiments - only after those possibilities are exhausted are they disposed of responsibly, never going down the sink.

Considered Design
Our aim is to produce well crafted and timeless pieces that can endure and survive, potentially even outlive us and be passed down through the generations. We do not make in excess, we often make-to-order, responding to demand.
