A Gift Guide: For Fathers
A selection of ideas of gifts for the dads. (Pssst. Father’s Day is June 15th here in the UK)
Because one always needs a new hobby
We have just published a new weekend of throwing lessons. These are 2.5 hour slots, £80pp in our beautiful Sheffield city centre studio. Beautifully giftable and perfect for beginners, or those already with a bit of throwing experience. Small group sizes and each person has their own dedicated wheel.
A Batter Bowl for a Pancake Expert
These batter bowls are one of our newest pieces. Designed for mixing batters, sauces, dressings. They’d make a lovely gift for a foodie father.
A painterly gift
I really like these beakers. They could work really well for a variety of drinks, from water vessels to milky flat whites or maybe even beer. But it is the painterly strip of iron oxide which disrupts the glaze that I love - each one the same but different.
A Jar for Many Uses
One of my favourite kitchen items of ours is our Lidded Jar. Many people use these jars to house sourdough starter (so much better than a plastic tupperware!), but they are also really handy for other kitchen bits - from teas, coffee beans to pulses, spices, herb blends, even butter. We make these jars in two different sizes, two different clays. The larger size is best for the sourdough starter in my experience. The difference in clay bodies just comes down to aesthetic really - the glazes on the paler clay tend to be a little brighter in colour than on the flecked, for instance.
Scissors, secateurs, beeswax candles
I generally find you can’t go wrong with functional and beautiful things by way of a gift. We stock a few different secateurs and scissors from Niwaki which would be a lovely gift for someone into gardening.
A Book for a Potter
We have recently published our first book. It is a practical book with plenty of step-by-steps and tips, but also, I hope, thoughtfully written with lots of design guidance and creative inspiration. We could always write a message in the book - just leave an instruction at the checkout.
For the Coffee Lover
We designed this set last year in collaboration with Scott at Drip in Holmfirth. It consists of a dripper, small cup and little jug, and when not being used the little cup can be stored in the dripped with a neat lid (which also acts as a coaster). It’s a neat little design and we love how they look and function. A coffee subscription from Drip would also be a lovely gift.
Dinner Bowls
Our Dinner Bowls are one of the most popular pieces we make - I think because they are so versatile - perfect for all sorts of meals. If we are out of stock, you can always go down the made-to-order route - the lead time is approximately 8 weeks and gifting options are available.
A soap dish for busy hands
New to our shop: soap dishes. But these are such fun and functional little dishes and would make a lovely gift for someone who loves pottery but also works with their hands (I mean, who doesn’t need to wash their hands?!) We in stock a few colourways, pictured above is nori.
