2.5 hour Throwing Workshop / 21st and 22nd June 2025

£80.00
Sold Out / Back Soon

Join us for a weekend of throwing workshops.

Time: 10:30 - 13:00 / or 14:00 - 16:30

Price: £80. All materials and firing costs are included. One piece may be kept to be fired and you can choose which glaze you’d like us to use - which can then be shipped out to you or collected from our studio. You will also receive a 10% discount if you wish to purchase our book.

Who is this course for? This workshop is a one-off session where all the fundamentals of throwing pots on the wheel will be covered, from learning to centre, throwing a cylinder and building confidence at the wheel. It is intended for beginners but those with a little more experience are also welcome, and we can tailor make the experience depending on how much experience or technical ability you have. (If you are wishing to learn something more specific or technical you may wish to book a private lesson).

Who will be teaching the class? The workshops are taught by Matt, chief potter and co-founder of Pottery West. Matt is a patient teacher with lots of technical expertise, and has recently co-authored a book all about designing and making tableware at the wheel.

How many people are in the class? A maximum of 4 people, with a wheel per person and lots of assistance.

What can you expect to make and how will the workshop run? Hopefully you will have at least one piece you are happy with and wish to fire. Bowls, mugs - whatever you like! The session will begin with a demonstration by Matt and then you’ll get going, with lots of hands on instruction as you work.

Where is the studio? Our current studio is in Sheffield city centre, near the train station and next to Site Gallery.

(Important - if you are wanting to book multiple places on this course - you will need to checkout individually for each person - sorry about this!)

We will fire and glaze one (and if relevant, more than one) finished piece and post to you after the course has ended.
You don’t need to have any pottery experience to attend this course, although it might be useful as a refresher course for those who have dabbled at the wheel in the past.
All equipment and materials will be provided.
Aprons will be provided but please wear suitable clothing that you don’t mind getting covered in clay. Please wear suitable footwear.
Once you’ve made your booking, we will contact you via email to discuss your plans, aspirations and interests so that we can tailor-make the session.
