Pottery West is the ceramics studio of Catherine and Matt West. Our pottery is made slowly at the wheel in our Yorkshire studio and fired in both oxidation and reduction.

Coffee Pour Over, Flecked Stoneware

Hand-thrown coffee pour-over / dripper, thrown at the wheel in a flecked stoneware.

Available in the following glazes: charcoal, nori, ochre, olive, powder, sand and speckled white. To learn more about the different glaze colours, please see our colour guide.

Designed for use with Hario v60 coffee filter paper size 2. Simple add the filter paper, your desired amount of coffee and add boiling water. This is compatible with any of our mugs and cups (except mini tapered mugs or espresso cups).

Dinner Bowl, Flecked Stoneware

Dinner Bowl, hand thrown at the potter’s wheel in an iron-rich flecked stoneware and available in the following glazes: charcoal, nori, ochre, olive, powder, sand and speckled white. These bowls are perfect for pasta dishes, but also lots of other dishes too. They are one of the most popular pieces we make.

Two Hour Wheel Throwing Sessions - Saturday 23rd May
£80.00

Two-hour wheel throwing session at the potter’s wheel, held at our studio at Bullhouse Mill near Penistone. This is a fantastic way to dive into all things clay and throwing at the wheel, led by Matt, an experienced and patient instructor. There are only 4 slots available in each session so the group sizes are small, with lots of hands on instruction.

Times: Saturday 23rd May, 11am - 1pm or 2pm to 4pm.

Price: £80 per person.

The Workshop:
This workshop is intended for complete beginners or those who have covered the basics but would like to consolidate their skills. This is a lovely activity to do with friends, colleagues, to celebrate a birthday or to enhance any existing experience at the wheel.

All materials, tools and firing costs are included. One piece may be kept to be finished by us then fired. You can choose which glaze you’d like us to use - which can then be shipped out to you or collected from our studio.

Who will be teaching the class? The workshops are taught by Matt, potter and co-founder of Pottery West. Matt is a patient teacher with lots of technical expertise, and has recently co-authored a book all about designing and making tableware at the wheel.

How many people are in the class? A maximum of 4 people, with a wheel per person and lots of assistance.

Where is the studio? The studio is located at Bullhouse Mill, a beautiful rural located a few miles from Penistone, also near Holmfirth.
