Five Things: Gifts for a Mother
Mothering Sunday falls on 15th March this year in the UK. Here are 5 pieces between the price range of £40 and £75 which we think would make a wonderful gift.
Essential Oil Diffuser
Since first making and designing our essential oil burners in 2022, this has become one of our most popular gifting items and I too seem to have gifted my fair share to loved ones, including my own mother. The verdict? She loves it and uses it daily. As a gift it is the perfect blend between utility and luxury. We now also sell the Homework essential oil blends.
£75
Essential Oil Burner / Diffuser hand-thrown in our flecked stoneware and glazed in a chun type glaze with iron oxide brushwork on the lid, which adds a delicate rhythm to the piece. This pot has been reduction fired in a gas kiln.
Each burner comes with one beeswax tea light candle and instructions for use, making it a lovely gift.

Candle Holder
We make two sizes of our footed candle holders, a standard to fit a pair of dinner candles and a wider size to fit a stumpie beeswax candle or a tealight. The wider size can also hold a small Kenzan and be used to make small floral displays. I think these make a great gift year round because of their versatility.
£40
Elevated candle holder, thrown in a flecked stoneware and available in the following glazes: ochre, nori, charcoal, sand, powder, olive and speckled white.

Cup
One of our best sellers, our cup is another piece that has gone through several iterations since we first started making them years and years ago. Initially it was designed as a tea bowl but we changed the name to cup because so many people told us they love using them for flat whites or milky coffees. Also cold drinks. The elegant foot ring on the cup elevates it and makes it a lovely shelf object too. You could pair it with a kenzan and display short stems of foliage too.
£40
Cup (tea bowl) thrown in an iron-rich flecked stoneware and available in the following glazes: charcoal, nori, ochre, olive, powder, sand and speckled white. The cup is suited to a wide range of uses including herbal tea, flat whites / cappuccino and cold drinks too.

Faceted Flower Frog
In March we are just beginning to see new shoots appear, early bulbs and flowers emerge, the world is starting to bloom around us. Our faceted flower frogs can be used as a regular vase (without the lid) or as a way to arrange single stems (with the lid). It’s a really distinctive gift for someone who loves the outdoors and maybe likes to bring a few foraged stems back indoors with them.
£62
Multi-functional flower frog and vase, wheel-thrown in a flecked stoneware. The vase is faceted and includes a lid which can be used to create floral arrangements by adding single stems. This is a very easy way of making arrangements out of the foliage and flowers you have available (even in the midst of Winter!). Alternatively the vessel can be used as a regular stem vase without the lid.
The vase is available in the following colours: charcoal, nori, ochre, olive, powder, sand, speckled white. To learn more about the colours please see here.
Please note there is a greater degree of variation from batch to batch than most of our pieces.

Enclosed Bowl
These bowls have evolved gradually over the years. Initially designed as a ramen bowl, we since realised they were a bit small (and now make a larger version too) but they are so perfect for other liquid-y foods - broths, porridge, soups and so on, the curved rim helping to contain the contents of the bowl. But it is also just a lovely bowl to have on display.
From £48
Broth, Soup or Ramen Bowl thrown in an iron-rich flecked stoneware and available in the following glazes: charcoal, nori, ochre, olive, powder, sand and speckled white. To learn more about the different glaze colours, please see our colour guide.
This bowl was originally developed as a ramen bowl, however we find it suitable for many varieties of foods - from breakfast porridge to soups and stews - so we decided to change the name to honour that.
This is the regular size, but we also make a larger version.
