Enclosed Bowl in Olive (on Southwold beach)
I’m writing this from our seaside holiday in Suffolk. Days on the beach, walking to the harbour, eating too much ice cream, taking photos of our pots in front of flint walls or on the sand dunes!
We started the month with some glaze testing. I’ve been trying to tweak our charcoal glaze a little to control the amounts of green in the glaze (which I’ve successfully managed to control by increasing the amount of nickel in the glaze) and whilst I was at it decided to run a blend of all three colourant oxides in the glaze to determine some new colour options for Autumn.
I’m drawn to a green, a dark blue and a bright blue, but I’ve also been playing with some softer matte whites and pinks, though these need a little bit of work to make them less ‘scratchy’.
If anyone is interested, this is my base glaze: Potash Feldspar 40 Whiting 20. China Clay Grolleg 25. Flint15. Colemanite 4
test tiles as a result of running a triaxial blend using one base glaze and combinations of cobalt carbonate, red iron oxide and nickel oxide.
As well as glaze testing Matt has made a good start on a large commission, but I can’t show you any behind the scenes images of this work yet unfortunately.
We’ve made some really lovely cups in pale stoneware (above) for our friends at Drip, but a few for our website too.
We’re very aware our shelves are a bit bare at the moment thanks to so many lovely orders and fairs this month. We’re finding it really tricky to boost our production with just the two of us but I’m so excited to say that we have two potters joining our team in September, so things are about to get so much more productive, and hopefully lots more pots available online again.
Cup (tea bowl) thrown in a pale stoneware and available in either our nori or ochre glaze. The cup is suited to a wide range of uses including herbal tea, flat whites / cappuccino and cold drinks too.

Autumnus Bowl thrown in an iron-rich stoneware and glazed in our nori glaze.
Our Autumnus Vase range was first created in 2022, each bowl being designed to fit a medium sized Kenzan, perfect for creating floral arrangements. Simple add the kenzan, arrange the stems and add water. The bowl also works well as a fruit bowl or stand alone decorative piece.

This bowl was originally developed as a ramen bowl, however we find it suitable for many varieties of foods - from breakfast porridge to soups and stews - so we decided to change the name to honour that.
This is the regular size, but we also make a larger version.
