BATCH 2 - Limited Edition Oil Diffuser. For sale from Sunday 12th March at 10am.

For our second BATCH series, we’ve been working on the design of a ceramic oil diffuser. After many prototypes which didn’t quite hit the mark, it became obvious that we were rather particular about what we wanted to achieve with this design:

  1. A beautiful, sculptural object.

  2. Performs its function well.

  3. Offers an alternative to the ceramic oil diffusers currently on the market.

We went back to the most simple of forms and experimented with the idea of the lid being also the water and oil vessel. The glazed underside of the lid prevents a charred surface from the flame of the candle. For the hole, which is important for oxygen flow and also access, inspiration came from the architecture of Louis Kahn. We love his bold Brutalist designs of brick with cut-throughs.

The hole itself is cut out of the clay at greenware stage using a drill (it seems a remarkably aggressive act but is in fact the neatest way to do this!).

The base of the foot is gently tapered to create a shadow gap between the base of the pot and the surface on which it sits.

The oil diffuser will be available in a limited edition of 75, each one with a hand-painted mark, and will be available in the glaze colours ochre, tin white and charcoal. The price will be £68.
