A Mug Story
A story about mugs - how we make them, which are our favourites. And about the love / hate relationship with handles.
Our July Studio Journal
Here’s what we’ve been up to in the studio this month. We’ve welcomed a new team member, Natalie, who is helping us with a whole host of tasks from admin to marketing and all things in between, we’ve been working on our new project, BATCH, we’ve made many ramen bowls and lidded jars, and have had some beautiful images taken by India Hobson. I’ve been reading ‘Kenko and Chomei - Essays in Idleness and Hojoki’ and we’ve been listening in the studio to our Spotify playlists and to Sense and Sensibility. It’s been a rather hectic type of month, with the end of the school year and just so much to do in the pottery!
Seconds + Sample Sale
We’re very pleased to let you know that we will be having a very splendid Seconds and Samples sale on Saturday 25th June 2022 at Persistence Works Gallery, Brown Street, Sheffield. 11-5 (or until pots sell out!). We will also be joined by fellow potter, Carla Murdoch, who is bringing along some studio seconds too.
An interview with our Studio Assistant, Luna van Mierlo
We thought some of you would be interested to learn more about Luna, our Studio Assistant, who joined us almost a year ago now and has since become such an integral part of the team. Here she talks a little about her journey into ceramics, the artists and ceramicists whose work she finds inspiring, and also her love of pastries. Eclectic!
A trip to the Essence + Alchemy garden lab
“I didn’t sleep well, because of the moon I think”, was the first thing Lesley said to me when I visited her garden lab. A bitterly cold day, the lawn leading up to the self-built headquarters of Essence and Alchemy, was still dashed with frost and Jack, Lesley’s sheepdog seemed pleased to see me, providing more energy than Lesley or I could muster.
