Jar in Shino, Oak Lid

Jar in Shino, Oak Lid

£275.00

Ceramic jar wheel-thrown in a pale stoneware and glazed in a shino type glaze, reduction fired, The glaze has lots of variation.

23cm h x 20cm ø (at widest point to nearest half cm)

Part of an edition of eleven jars, a collaboration between Pottery West and Neil Whitelaw. He says about the choice of wood for this lid:

I experimented with walnut to pick up the darker flecks in the glaze. I then tried out this piece of oak from Thurgoland. I kept the dark centre of the branch in the turning to do that job of picking up the fleck.

Each jar in the collection is completely unique with its corresponding lid turned at the lathe in Neil’s Sheffield workshop.
